If you're interested in training to install solar panels, there is a place that will not only train you and certify you, but help you get started in your business immediately after completing their course!
I've checked out several solar panel installation training schools, and the one that seems to always end up most highly recommended is Boots on the Roof - www.BootsontheRoof.com
Here are a list of the courses they replied back to me and informed me they offer:
- Photovoltaic Design Foundations - Online course covers the fundamental skills and knowledge involved in the design, installation, and evaluation of residential and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Topics include advantages and disadvantages of systems, site evaluation tools and techniques, solar electric component operation & connection, system design and sizing, and standard requirements and practices. This course is self-paced, however, students are advised to restrict it within a duration of four to seven weeks to keep clarity and continuity of the learning process. No prior solar experience or knowledge is required for this training.
- 6 Day Solar PV Boot Camp is accredited by ISPQ (Institute for Sustainable Power Quality), the most well respected global accrediting body for renewable energy education. This course covers solar-electric (PV) system design, estimation and installation, plus topics on solar industry economics, permitting, financial analysis and business operations (how to partner with distributors, policies and regulations, incentive and rebate programs and how to sell to your customer). The class is optimized for architects, engineers, licensed or journeyman electricians, general contractors, and other home-improvement contractors looking to add solar-electric systems to their existing service offerings.
- 6 Day Solar Thermal Boot Camp - This course teaches the fundamentals of design & installation of solar thermal water heating systems. You will also learn the business and sales side of Solar Thermal (how to partner with distributors, policies and regulations, incentive and rebate programs and how to sell to your customer). Their blended learning approach incorporates Instructor-led lectures, presentations and hands-on labs, including the use of site-assessment tools in the design of solar thermal systems. Students should have mechanical aptitude, and experience in HVAC or Plumbing is helpful.
- 4 Day Solar for Sales Professionals - A course on the ins & outs of the PV Systems Sales Process, and is intended for experienced Sales Professionals moving into solar from other industries. The course overlaps most of the non-hands-on content from their 6-Day Solar Boot Camp, with additional information specifically useful for Sales Professionals: customer relationship management, lead generation and closing, deeper financial analysis of customer ROI, and using the consultative sales approach for solar.
